These days, I find that most printers do their jobs quite well, printing words and pictures, and this printer is no exception. When I actually got it to print, the print quality of both the documents and the images was fine. Not something that felt squeaky clean to me, but it's nice and the images print a little faster than I'm used to. So that part was good. However, the setup was a nightmare. So many problems of this kind could be solved with good technical documentation. In particular, if a product deviates slightly from the norm, this must be clearly stated and explained in the printed user manual that accompanies the product. The printer comes with a quick start guide (actually two different ones, one is supposed to be a quick start guide and the other isn't, but basically the same) but it omits a few details. The printer had a few features that I'm not used to. The first step to correctly loading the paper is to lift the entire display, pull the paper tray all the way out, then reinsert it, and then pull out the paper guide/support for the finished print. If you don't, you'll get a misprint that's small and hard to read. This happened to me about 10 times before I finally figured it out, mostly through trial and error. When I went to print in what I always thought was the default mode, 8 1/2 by 11 letters, I received a message that the size was not supported by my printer. Eventually I realized that the printer had somehow automatically recognized mine (a fairly standard medium printer paper) as A4 sized. I installed both the printer and the source and got the print. My first print after 2 hours of fighting. I won't delve into the tricky little and inconvenient Wi-Fi setup or weird icons on the buttons instead of the regular "Print" button. All I can say is that I was very upset. I like a few things about this printer. It is small and fits in a limited space. It has 5 ink cartridges, with separate black for photos and documents, so you don't have to buy all new inks if you really only need one of the colors. It works with the Epson iOS app, so you don't need a computer to use it. It's not a bad printer at all and I've been using it for a while now and apart from a few other hiccups I really like it. I've printed quite a few images and still have enough ink, which is always nice. So --- if you get slightly frustrated with setup and want the printer to work like your last printer with no surprises, you might not like this one. But if you're a techie, like a challenge, and want a compact printer, this could be a good option.
