First off I can guarantee you that all the bad reviews come from people who did not read the instructions. This device works just fine, given it doesn't work 100% of the time. Hence the 4 star review. However if you follow the instructions and use it as intended it does work atleast 90% of the time which is far more than you should ask of any equipment that is technically outdated. I have mine plugged in an outlet that is behind a table and blocked by a couch, I sit roughly 10-12 feet from this outlet and it still picks up my claps 90% of the time. The key is in the instructions "CLAP pause CLAP" if you clap too fast it will not register. You MUST pause in between. The two clap switch is much more accurate then the 3 clap switch so keep that in mind as well if plugging in multiple devices. All and all its a device that comes in handy and functions for the most part as stated. I don't think it's really worth the $21. But then again price inflation is a real problem these days, and I doubt you'll find a better product for cheaper.
