I modified mine to install and plug into a standard outlet. I was just being lazy and didn't want to run the cable and install the gangster box etc. I only need emergency lights to get around the basement when I lose power very often. It shines very brightly, I hope it stays that way for a long time. I'm thinking of doubling the size of the battery to survive a common power outage here.
