If you have an older system with a Socket 7 or Socket 370 processor, you will likely need one of these fans one day. (Especially for Socket 7 processors as they don't have built in thermal monitoring/protection features so a faulty fan will cause damage.) In my case I replace the fan on some older Intel Pentium 100/AMD K5 systems and it works for me . Be sure to check the height clearance of your old CPU fan before ordering - some motherboards/cases may have the HDD mounted above the CPU, in which case the height clearance may be an issue. The height of the heatsink and fan is approximately 41mm from the chip to the top of the fan. The fan is marked as a ball bearing fan so should last a while. The heatsink and fan come with a 3-pin motherboard connector, a Molex hard drive/4-pin CD connector, and a one-time package of universal heatsink paste.
