I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the packaging - it is actually a storage box. Didn't expect that! This is my first whetstone. I did a little research and randomly picked this set because it came with 3 different stone tiers - and the price seemed good. I've used it twice for the same set of kitchen knives that needed sharpening. The first time I watched a video on the web, I tried the freehand method (no tool slanted). This is a technologically delicate process, but it's not the fault of the stone setter. The next week I tried the same knives with an angled tool. It was a lot easier and seemed more consistent. (it might also be easier because it was my second time). I am very happy with the results. I used 3 different stone levels and the knives are clearly much sharper. A litmus test would be if I get tomato slices or tomato juice when I try to cut it. The leveling stone is also a nice touch. I only give 4 stars because there is no comparison. If anyone asks for recommendations I would point them to this set! In fact, I've already forwarded a link to this set to a friend.
