Review on Discover the LG 32BN88U-B Ultrafine 4K Ergonomic Monitor with 120Hz and USB Hub by Pratap Rothstein

I've been using this 32" monitor for about a week now, replacing a 12 year old 30" Dell monitor with a resolution of about 2560 x 1600. This LG is now connected to a CalDigit Thunderbolt via a display port cable 3 dock, which in turn is connected to a 2018 MacBook Pro via Thunderbolt. I've set the resolution to 3360 x 1890 (122ppi) rather than Full HD (139ppi) so I can easily read text like what I'm typing here in emails etc even though it's smaller than - for a higher PPI than Dell had. I've tried 3200 x 1800 (116ppi) and 3008 x 1692 (109ppi) and they all look great; It's basically a matter of trading between real estate and standard text size. The brightness is set to 100 percent when the sunlight falls at an angle of about 90 degrees on the monitor, which is only 1.20 to 1.50 meters away - no problem if it's blurry. Haven't tried calibrating it yet, but it "looks" fine. I like the ergonomic stand. All cons are inconveniences for me, but no cons. First of all, it's sound. The built-in speakers sound good (I'm listening to Planet P.Pink World while typing); Of course, they're not for music lovers, but they sound pretty good, and I turned the volume down. The problem is that I can only adjust the volume with the joystick switch under the bottom center panel; Adjusting the volume from the keyboard or from the menu bar in OS X Big Sur does not work. I can select the monitor's speakers in the operating system's sound settings, but I can only control the volume from the monitor itself. This is inconvenient when you want to change the volume quickly. I ordered a set of small desktop speakers that I can control and will be using them instead. The second minus is the same joystick for setting parameters. It's not bad, just not as easy to navigate as some of the other methods, but it's not a deal breaker either. From there I could make a wish list of things that would be nice (daisy chain connection to a second monitor, built in KVM, toaster heat slot, etc) but I knew those things weren't part of the package when I did bought. Overall I'm very happy with it and hope it lasts the 12 years Dell gave me. I would buy it again, but I would also like LG to try a little bit to provide full functionality for Mac users.
