I've been consistently disappointed with these pins, but today they finally motivated me to go in and write this review. I've been using these clothespins to hang clothes for the past 3 1/2 months. They're minimally functional for lighter clothing that won't snag or maybe for craft projects. But, as reviewer TG noted, "...the spring mechanism wraps cheaply around the tree, so if you apply pressure, the tree rotates at the pivot point, and the pins can't hold anything because the ends don't meet." Even if the ends meet, the spring isn't tight enough." That's exactly what I find. Also, they self-destruct. In the last 3 days alone, doing 4 loads of laundry, I had twisted 13 of them so far, that they split and flew in 3 directions (metal spring, 2 pieces of wood).Goggles might be a good idea! It's almost impossible to put them together without some sort of small vise, which would be a waste of time.Compared to several still working 25 year old clothespins , which I still use, the pivot point seems to be about 1/4 inch farther from the snap end, which allows the snap end to open wider, which I really like them, but I'm wondering if that's in addition to the thinner wire the could cause twisting/self-destruct. Also, the wood of many pens is very rough and split. It will stick to most fabrics, not just loosely woven ones. In the beginning, before I noticed how u hen some of them are rude, I got my finger on a splinter from one, then I went through the package and threw away the obviously rude ones. Wearing gloves I guess while hanging laundry might be a good idea now too. Why I love hanging laundry outside: 1. It's my quiet time (no one bothers me when I'm hanging my laundry!) 2. If done right 99% of all ironing can be avoided (use layout/pinning, water weight and gravity to your advantage).3. Clothes smell wonderful (definitely depends on your location).4. Sunlight can remove stains on white garments/towels that cannot be bleached (prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will lighten and fade the fabric).5. In my hot/dry climate, clothes dry faster outside than in a dryer even with minimal wind (my rope is even under a patio cover). Then there's the old energy saving part.
