Let me start by saying that I have used several electronic thermometers, I bought Thermoworks Thermapen as gifts for others and bought this one to replace my own Thermapen as it was becoming intermittent. I've used my new Taylor for both "real" BBQ and grilling a number of times since last October. Advantages; backlit display, hold function, public batteries, PRICE! Slightly tricky to open the probe (easier if you don't have short nails), odd shape/texture/size make it a little "uncomfortable" to hold, manipulate and place on the table. For me this is a good competitor to the ThermaPen. Of course, I have no idea what its longevity will be - I hope it lasts. I recommend it.
