Not waterproof! for meat

This is the second one I have. The first died after falling into a water-filled sink while cleaning. After owning this second unit for about a month, I tried to just wipe it down with a damp cloth and moisture was pooling under the LCD screen. I folded the thermometer's handle to prevent current from flowing through the electronic components and let it dry. It took almost a week! Although there is no longer any sign of moisture, I have since questioned its accuracy. At this price I would not…

I like it! fits thermometers and timers

Let me start by saying that I have used several electronic thermometers, I bought Thermoworks Thermapen as gifts for others and bought this one to replace my own Thermapen as it was becoming intermittent. I've used my new Taylor for both "real" BBQ and grilling a number of times since last October. Advantages; backlit display, hold function, public batteries, PRICE! Slightly tricky to open the probe (easier if you don't have short nails), odd shape/texture/size make it a little "uncomfortable"…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Infinitely slow

fast enough good for thermometer and timer

tested going from hot tap water (116F) to water with ice floating in it (32F). Reading from one to the other takes about 6 seconds. It's pretty fast. The screen is large and backlit. The figures are approximately 3/4 inch tall. Very worth reading. The viewing angle is adequate, a bit narrower than I would have expected from modern displays. This requires 2 AAA batteries, not LR44. (Amazon's description mentions both types.) It's a little larger than I imagined. 5.5" closed, 10" open. My first…

Excellent instant read thermometers and timers

I've had this for a few months now and it has changed the way I use an instant read thermometer. We have been using analog models with nickel-sized dials for many years; They were difficult to read and we were never sure of accuracy - in fact we got readings 10 degrees apart when we tried both on the same dish. After noticing some expensive digital models at a kitchen supply store I checked out Revain and it looked like a reasonable price at around half the price. It works well, and the large…

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised

. The choice was between this and Thermapen. We're fed up with store-bought disposables that fall apart or lose size after just a few uses. It's been accurate for the months we've had it and overall we're very happy with it. If I had to make one really small complaint, it would be that the keys don't have a great deal of resistance, so if not held carefully you will inadvertently delay the temperature reading or go from degrees C to degrees F. great product .Update after one year: Problems when
