Many reviewers who are unfamiliar with science misrepresent several concepts. First let me say that I have a 40 ounce Takeya thermos and a 40 ounce hydro flask. These are comparable products with comparable build quality and performance to keep liquids cool and tasty. In fact, I like the build quality of the small neck of this cap more than the cap that comes standard on a hydroflask. That alone costs another $7 to $10. If you have a smaller mouth, you'll appreciate drinking out of this lid a lot more, trust me. Now let's uncover the rubbish tests that people are posting in their reviews. If you put 5 ice cubes in a 40 ounce container, close it and check the ice after 12 hours. OF COURSE it melted. Why? Because you've sealed nearly 40 ounces of room temperature air in a container that the ice is now equilibrated with. If you FILL the container with ice or ice water and then test it 12 hours later, it will be closer to the same temperature and texture in the bottle than if you only partially filled it. The level of performance is almost identical to the Hydroflask brand but slightly weaker as the Hydroflask has 30% more steel making it 5 ounces heavier (17 to 12 ounces). As someone who drinks their drink during the workday rather than 24 hours, I find the performance comparable to the Hydro Flask in this regard and the lighter weight is actually an advantage. The second drives me insane. Putting the bottle in the fridge and discovering the next day that the ice left in it has melted is not a sign of technological failure, it is actually a SUCCESS. Again, if you sealed room temperature air and some ice in a container and then placed it in a refrigerator, the internal environment was so well insulated from the external coolness of the refrigerator that the ice would be poised to melt. Thermos flasks are not intended to "amplify" the cooling effect of a refrigerator. The thermos only slows down the rate at which temperature equilibrium is reached with the external environment. So if you want the best cooling performance from a thermos or hydro flask, try FILLING the reservoir with cold or ice cold liquid early in the day. Technology only makes our lives easier when we really understand how to use it. The Takeya thermos with a small spout that opens and closes with a twist of the lid is one of the best performances I've found for this type of product.
