Does NOT charge with Lightning cable, USB-C only

No, unless charging with a USB-C device; Lightning cables do NOT work! Here is a product description that doesn't say it clearly: 【Sync data and charge iPhone at the same time】 The unique feature of AkHolz USB adapter for iPad is that when you connect peripherals to transfer photos and videos, you can also connect the charging cable to charge iOS . Devices with our USB camera adapter. (Well, how many IOS devices use USB-C?) I wish I could exchange or return it, but I didn't realize this until after the return period had passed.
