The piece is 2.8 x 1.2 cm (excluding the protruding keychain hole), so is very small but surprisingly thick, just over 3 mm. The contact area of the plugs is approximately 2.5mm thick, which is not within the specs for USB Type-A plugs (they should be just over 1.3mm thick, most are just under 2mm thick - see link in the comments section). The metal platter back is too thick, which is why this drive fits so well that many people point this out in their reviews. I used to carry around a thinner flash drive, just under 2mm thick, but I recently lost it and the old drive fitted perfectly. You must be careful when inserting this pen drive into USB ports as it will definitely widen and loosen the USB port holes for other USB connectors that comply with the specification. When you transfer files to it, it feels VERY HOT. Hot enough to be uncomfortable, maybe not hot enough to burn you. It cools down when at rest. You would expect a flash drive that gets very hot to be very fast, but that's not the case here. It was the slowest of the three miniature USB flash drives I tested, the others being the Verbatim Tuff N' Tiny 16GB and the Patriot Memory Direct flex 16GB. Transfer rates on my HP netbook were under 3 MB/s (2.9 MB/s average) and it takes about 1 hour to fill 15.2 GB (16,340,992,000 bytes) on this drive. Comes with a small keychain. My previous USB stick came with a very thin braided nylon strap, which I prefer. Also, this drive does not have an LED indicator that shows whether it is powered on or off. much smaller than my previous drive, its thickness and fit for USB ports, and the heat it generates when downloading data are certain downsides, making this flash drive an undesirable, mediocre, and imperfect choice at best. I should note that I received the 16GB silver version. It hasn't lost any data so far, that's the only reason it doesn't get a star. I will update this review if anything happens. Flash drives fail sooner or later, they don't have as long a life cycle as hard drives. A flash drive that works as hard as this one and boots so slowly suggests that some internal electrical faults are likely already present, and high temperatures make internal microscopic solder joints more likely to crack sooner.
