Changing your computer's boot drive from a mechanical drive to an SSD is the biggest daily performance gain you can make, especially for laptops. As many reviewers point out, the difference is noticeable and enough to really improve the user experience. Considering you need an SSD - and you need one ;) - Intel drives are a good choice. I've bought 5 different sizes of Intel SSDs and never had a single problem. Performance has always been amazing. Intel has enough confidence in these drives to back them with a 5 year warranty, which is really hard to come by these days. Intel provides a free utility to migrate your existing data to a new drive, and there are other alternatives online if you need more options. There's a rather esoteric subtlety to it. To get the most out of SSDs, Intel or otherwise, you must use an operating system that supports the TRIM command for SSDs. All modern commercial and open source operating systems are suitable, but some older operating systems are not (e.g. Windows XP). The TRIM command tells the drive which parts of the disk are unused. This allows the SSD to use its flash memory efficiently and spread wear and tear. Without the TRIM command, there are long freezes where the drive appears to be locked - the drive is moving data because it doesn't know how much space is free. Get an Intel SSD as long as you're running the latest OS model. You will not regret it!
