Review on πŸ”ͺ WALRUS OIL - Food-Safe Cutting Board and Wood Butcher Block Oil, 32 oz Jug by Christopher Ward

Great product but overpriced

I'm a realtor and I make a cutting board for clients when they close their house. I bought a few bottles of it. Absolutely no problems with the product. Works great and makes the boards look great. I was going to order another $25 bottle but decided to find some recipes and make my own. I've mostly made front boards that don't absorb a lot of oil, but I've started making almost all end boards that use a lot of oil. I wanted to keep costs down so I looked at the ingredients. This product contains refined coconut oil, mineral oil, vitamin E and beeswax. All ingredients are very cheap to buy separately and it brings a lot. The general rule is this. If you want a thicker, pudding-like or slightly firmer product, use 4 parts oil to 1 part beeswax. You heat the oil over low heat with the wax and keep stirring until it's completely melted. Remove from the stove, pour into bowls and let cool. If you want the oil to look like walrus oil in liquid form, use oil/beeswax in a 12:1 ratio or even higher. You can use pure mineral oil or mix it with refined coconut oil, whichever you prefer. Coconut oil doesn't really change how the oil is applied or how long it lasts. This is to make it sound like a better product or more "natural". You may or may not use vitamin E as well. I coat my boards with Caron and Doucet cutting board wax. He smells amazing. Just to reiterate, this is a great product but definitely overpriced for what you get. The profit from this is huge because they buy raw materials in bulk cheaper. If you absolutely don't care about the cost or don't want to live off it, buy this stuff.
