I have to say RAM makes great grips for devices! And it is this product of theirs that follows this very stellar pedigree :-). Note that this (and every) socket on the mount suction cup is better able to grip with that "vise" on the mounting surface - the "super smooth" that surface is. At the same time, such an ideal surface has sufficient intrinsic mass/weight to provide the "stable plane" required for any assembly. And so naturally/usually a material like glass provides such an optimal mounting surface. This explains why this phone/portable device mount works great on vehicle windshields. On the downside, we found such a surface difficult to navigate in a more homely/indoor setting, which might be enough even "on the go" to allow for flexibility of where everyone around the house could take our phones to use.
