The durability of the coating is terrible

I bought this desk to try to downsize my office space to make room for our newborn. I read the reviews and followed the advice of the man who said to use wood glue. I knew this product was made of pressed cardboard and had college dorm quality. What I didn't expect was the terrible quality and durability of the finish. It had a few spots where the finish was damaged around the edges that I could deal with. Once I started putting it together I found the instructions were terrible, which is honestly what I expected. They don't give you any real explanation of what to do. Only images that contain multiple steps with a few small pieces for each step. Annoying, but I got it. When the side stand was assembled I noticed that there was an imperfection in the finish where the boards fitted (photo #1). But no big deal as it will face the wall. After removing the stickers from the labels, part of the fairing came off along with one of the stickers. So I was more careful with the rest of the stickers. After everything was assembled, which took about 1 hour, I cleaned it to see if the coating was actually already worn/off (last 2 photos). I assembled it on the carpet and took the parts out of the box one by one. I assume it was due to friction in the factory and packaging. Is it worth $50? Not really. I like its style and its compact/universal design. Curious how long that lasts.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
