I love my Teva flip flops but as I get older I need better arch and overall support. They provide some arch support and some cushioning. They are much heavier and more durable than many foam sandals - for serious hiking or walking I would take them. The velcro is very strong - if you've ever had a velcro break you know how important it is! I'll try half a size up - I wear a size 8 in Teva flip flops, but a size 9 was slightly smaller when going down/pressing (hence the splayed toes).
