This project only became a Christmas Eve project because Christmas Eve was in the spotlight. Problem: The hallway where I present my Christmas cards is so dark that I can neither read nor enjoy them. Solution: I ordered this little spotlight to mount on the opposite wall, thinking it would illuminate the space in front of my mirrored tree hallway for the rest of the year. This dark hallway keeps me from enjoying my December Christmas cards and doesn't let me look in the hallway mirror when I put on my hat and gloves before stepping outside. I needed more light! I ordered this little headlight online. It should be small but bright. It's definitely both! I then went to Home Depot to get a low voltage bell wire, wire hider, wire toggle switch and electrical plug. I mounted the headlight on a piece of wood attached at an "unusual" corner. above the doorframe of the front door (every detail is "unusual" in this 1862 farmhouse). The power switch is hidden between the door frame and plastered wall. The electrical plug was hardwired to the other side of the transformer, which was then connected to the outlet. Although the fixture was advertised as a 'warm' white, it was actually a very bright blue light, so I opted for a gold colored filter to slightly tint the brightness. And voila! Christmas cards to actually read and enjoy in the winter, and then better hallway lighting for my lobby tree the rest of the year!
