Starrett 798A - Premium quality

Starrett arrived on time today with delivery within 2 days. The product was brand new and came in a red hard plastic case with molded foam for protection and storage. it's available. Instructions were included and easy to understand. The product was turned on and worked right out of the box. holds zero well; very smooth-running with position wheel. The caliper itself appears to be heavy gauge stainless steel, very smooth and precisely machined - no play. The electronics unit moves smoothly, there is no play in its movement on the pole. The graduations on the caliper shaft are very small but easy to read. Before I bought the Revain Starrett ($139), I visited Harbor Freight and saw what a cheap unit looks like - only about $15. Not a very good comparison but I believe if you buy a tool you won't regret spending more money on quality and reliability. The product label says it was assembled in the USA. There are no regrets here!
