Review on Yost Heavy Duty Drill Press: Powerhouse Performance for Precision Drilling by Dave Rasic

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great value for bench clamps

This vise compares well to some of the older American style small drill vises I've used at work. (This particular Yost model was made in India.) It's a huge step up from the crudely made vise that sells for around $30 in big stores. The castings are strong with no visible defects and an even coating. The processing is generally very good, there are a few corners and edges. The underside of the base has a perfectly smooth and flat surface and sits on the drill press table without hesitation. 15 mm (0.59 inch) cross-threaded screw. The handle is large enough and beautifully finished. The moving jaw is precisely adjusted so it moves smoothly and stays parallel to the fixed jaw to within 0.005". The V-grooves in the fixed jaw are sized to hold round objects 1/8" to 1/2" in diameter. Using a 1/2" test rod and a dial indicator, I found that the horizontal V-groove keeps the rod parallel to the drill table to within .007". All in all a good tool at a very good price. I hope it lasts for many years.
