I built my home 11 years ago in Eagle, Idaho where the water is moderately hard at 6-9 gallons per gallon. Not wanting to deal with the physical, logistical, and financial difficulties of bringing salt home, as well as environmental and sewage issues, I installed Pelican Descaler, which cost about $1,500. If it ever worked, it definitely stopped working as I've had increasing scale problems on all the faucets (and surrounding countertops), shower heads, water dispensers, etc. I have come to the conclusion that I need to purchase and install a water softener. When choosing the greenhouse, I came across Yarna. After reading the reviews and hearing about the one year money back guarantee, I decided I had nothing to lose by experimenting to prove it couldn't work! I bought the CDW30 model after a brief interaction with a company that offered more horsepower than the CDW20 would have increased the Yarna's ability to get the job done. Also, I liked the black look better than the orange. Installing Yarna is trivial if you have an easily accessible inlet pipe. I did, but first I had to remove the pelican and reposition my particulate filter. My install is PEX, which makes these changes relatively easy. Winding the wire ribbons is a bit tricky. I would probably use tape to secure the ends instead of the included zip ties if I were to do it again. First of all, the user manual and the high-quality online video. Yarna clearly tells you that the product takes three months to take effect. However, I was amazed when I started noticing results after just 12 hours. I didn't notice any change from using the water, but the limescale was hard to remove without a lot of effort and the vinegar started coming off my nail. It's been a week and a half now and the results I'm seeing are amazing. My kitchen faucet is 100% lime free, clogged jets work like new, and other really problematic areas like bathtub faucets and shower heads are in the process of being restored. I am confident that the product will work as advertised, the dandruff will completely disappear within 3 months. Just as importantly, I expect Yarna to hold back and expand in the future. And best of all: no salt!
