Mitutoyo 500-196-30 AOS Absolute 6 " Caliper

Prior to my review of the performance and accuracy of the Mitutoyo caliper I wanted to share some important things to look out for to ensure you are getting a genuine Mitutoyo caliper and not fake calipers made in China (a good price is usually between $100-$125) Now that I am said the one I bought from Revain was listed for $95.02 (that was the best price I found online and according to information on the web they are legal to the best of my knowledge). ) Here are the main things I found on the internet to guarantee authenticity: - Mitutoyo is a Japanese company so stay away from Chinese sellers and bau It should say "Made in Japan, not China". The serial number on the back of the caliper must match the test certificate. Mitutoyo calipers include a stainless steel (SR44) battery in a separate package and should not be installed. Mitutoyo calipers should include a yellow (3) step adjustment procedure attached to the set screw on top of the caliper. Digits are always the same size, and the "inch" character is to the right of the digits. Now for my rating. Just great! I've recently started reloading match grade ammo for my sniper rifle and +/- .005 can make a world of difference for your group size and hitting targets over 1000 yards. When I first started reloading, I used my old $20 Harbor Freight calipers, which are good for easy reloading. However, I didn't get any consistent measurements and the Harbor Frieght calipers kept losing zero position, requiring me to recalibrate after each measurement. In some cases it will vary from 0.005 to 0.015 on (3) separate measurements of the same bullet and this does not help reloading high precision cartridges. In the images below I was able to consistently get the same measurement for all (5). Bullets I loaded (3) different lengths. The Absolute Zero feature works flawlessly and is a must for me as I use a special bullet length adapter. So bottom line is very happy with these calipers and would highly recommend.
