Review on πŸŽ™οΈ OM Digital Solutions WS-311M: Versatile Digital Voice Recorder and WMA Music Player by Besim Kahsar

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good voice recorder for the price

I bought this little device mainly for meeting recording and live music. I've used a Sony MD recorder in the past, which isn't bad either, but requires an MD tape and the Sonicstage transfer and editing software isn't very up to date. The recording quality is quite clear. A tip when recording is to make sure both the left and right mics have the same exposure. I placed the recorder sideways (at first I thought one side of the mic up would do) in my bag while recording live music and the left and right stereo sound was a bit unbalanced. I compared the review recording between the Sony MD and Olympus standing side by side and found that the MD vocals are louder but also have some sort of background hum, while the Olympus vocals are quieter but without the background hum. Both recordings are quite clear, so there are no particular problems. Transferring to a computer is also very easy. Just connect the recorder to USB and copy and paste files. There is no need to install any driver or use any additional software at all. Overall I am very happy with this registrar. It is easy to use and the recording quality is quite good. I gave 4 stars because I think the quality of the recording could be better. Note, however, that the quality of a recording is affected by various factors: how close you are to the speaker, the location of the recording device, the size of the room, etc., so it's hard to judge if it's good enough. I' we took 2 recordings of the same live performance from different positions and got different results. It would also be great if the audio file could be recorded in another format like mp3 or wav, not just WMA.

Pros
  • Convenient design with direct USB 2.0 for fast data transfer
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others
