If your betta has kinked fins AND it looks like it has gold dust on it, like it's covered in pollen when you shine a flash on it (not a phone flash but a real flash) then you need CopperSafe. First remove all charcoal (charcoal can also be present in replacement filters, so cut them off to remove the charcoal beads that absorb the mediation and render it ineffective) and perform a 50% water change with treated water 24-48 hours ago (CopperSafe can become dangerous to your fish by binding to water treatment chemicals like Prime and other dechlorinators and ammonia reducers, so it's best to treat the water 24-48 hours before adding to the aquarium and adding CopperSafe ). If you have a small tank and are not good with chemical conversions or math, ask someone to help you get the right dosage in your tank. Too little will be ineffective and too much will be dangerous. Purchase a copper testing kit that measures "chelated copper" at a pet store or online for $7 to ensure copper is at therapeutic levels for the next 10 days. Do not change the water for 10 days and keep the tank covered with a towel as the velvet parasite needs light to grow. If you need to change the water, you need to make very precise calculations to replace the removed CopperSafe with the amount of water removed. Feed your fish some pellets once a day if they're still eating (mine stopped). My picture on the left is of a velvet disease betta on the day I added CopperSafe and the picture on the right is on day 10 that I was able to do a water change. And the last photo of my Betta now, almost 1.5 months later! Happy and healthy!
