Review on PetSafe Manners Minder Remote Trainer by Heather Shaw

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great device. Had to modify it to make it work with my food

I've had this thing for about three weeks now. My trainer convinced me of this and although I haven't had the opportunity to use it to its full potential based on my initial experience, I firmly believe that it will work very well for my training. That being said, I'm disappointed to have spotted a very simple but important technical error. I noticed that during continuous output (sit and stay mode as they call it) the machine would stop at random times. I have tried different size dispensers with no success. My croquette is hard and oval, fits well in the dispenser hole size so it fits perfectly in the machine but still clogs it. Upon closer inspection, the holes in their donor rings had a ridge around the hole that sometimes pushed my piece against the edge of the main block as the donor ring rotated. Crumbs pressed against the main unit caused clogging and dispenser failure. To fix this I took a Dremel tool and cut out the edge of the edge that was grabbing the pellet and now it works like a dream. No questions. I still can't figure out: 1. why they built a ridge in the area I had to remove2. Why didn't they ever find this problem in product testing? I recommend buying this machine, but if your food gets stuck in the machine, don't change your dog food because of the poor machine design - find a friend with a dremel or other tool and cut off the outside of the ribs on the dispenser rings. If for some reason you clog it up completely, you can always buy a replacement ring dispenser.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
