Before we begin, see the attached photos of a $15 Milwaukee (Home Depot local versus $33 here) and a Swanson from $10 (Revain) on - note to the contrasting surface and edge qualities and measurements. I was looking for a square to calibrate my saws and tools and various DIY jobs. Swanson had amazing ratings and a large number of reviews. I ordered an aluminum version with black markings as shown in the picture. When I received it, it was actually at 90 and 45 degrees according to my digital protractor, but the surfaces, while not rough, were not smooth. Overall it looked surprisingly unfinished, like a tool meant to be thrown around on a framing site without really caring what happened because the approximation is good enough. The numerals were legible but not clear, and the black ink used to highlight the markings was uneven and, in some cases, almost non-existent. I was looking for a more professional spot and settled on the Milwaukee, which got a lot less but great reviews and was only $15 a day at Home Depot (compared to $30 here). For an additional $5 you get a very finely machined tool with beautifully smooth and machined surfaces that also rotates 90 and 45 degrees.
