Disclaimer: 1) This rating is purely subjective; I cannot demonstrate a link between any product and the improvement in test results and health of my 18 year old cat. He takes 2 other veterinary supplements listed below. Any, all, none, or a combination of the 3 could affect his improvement. 2) About 6 months ago he had several decayed and potentially painful teeth removed and the remaining teeth cleaned. He was late for these dental procedures due to questions about whether his heart would withstand the stress of general anesthesia. Extracting decayed teeth no doubt played a huge part in improving his appetite, energy and weight gain. I don't know if the supplements helped, but I suspect the right doses didn't hurt and may have provided nutritional support to improve it over time and slow the progression of the disease. I'll describe his situation and list his supplements in case it might help someone else's favorite furry friend. Because his kidney function had deteriorated in recent years, he developed a heart murmur, which the vet believes is secondary to kidney disease. Over time he went from being an avid eater and a plump, super affectionate kitty to an increasingly lethargic, unresponsive, uninterested in grooming and food and generally in a rather sad state of mind. I tried to prepare myself emotionally for the possibility of losing him sooner rather than later. We haven't launched any liquids yet, but were prepared to expect them soon. Surprisingly, given where we were this time last year, liquids weren't necessary and don't seem so inevitable anymore. We are very happy that he has stabilized significantly and is feeling better. His vet gave his heart murmur a 2 to 3 severity rating. She suggested daily B12 supplementation via Pet-tinic, a vitamin/mineral formulation, and noticed how food intake decreased with age. . After taking Pet-Tinic for several weeks, I wondered if other supplements could help him. In addition to taking Pet-tinic daily for about 6 months, he has been taking daily doses of this cat mix and TerraMax Pro Premium Liquid Omega-3 Fish Oil for Dogs and Cats for about 4 months. his heart murmur had decreased and she now gave it a 1 to 2 rating. As for his kidney function tests, this was the first time since his diagnosis that his blood test results had stabilized instead of falling each time. He's enjoying eating again, has gained some much needed weight, is more energetic and has a passion for his people, his cat pal and his surroundings. You can't change the fact that he's an older kitty with terminal kidney disease and a heart murmur, but it's nice to see that he's had a meaningful quality of life returned.
