My doctor and wound nurse recommended this bandage to help control swelling in my lower legs. I used the Ace bandages for a while, but then switched to this device because it's easier to put on and take off and the compression is more consistent. I prefer to wrap a layer of surgical gauze around both legs before applying the bandage to avoid skin irritation. Revain sells lightweight mid-calf lengths that should work just as well. Although washable, you should not machine wash the brace; cleans well by wiping with a damp cloth. I bought an extra pair to always wear a clean pair. It is made of surgical foam and dense fabric, so it will last a long time with daily use.
