I confess that it is very durable. However, these heterotrophic bacteria do more harm than good. You need a very good filtration system to avoid suffocating the fish from bacterial blooms. Also, it causes ammonia emissions for several days as it destroys all organic matter. Not entirely sure, unless you want a half-cooked tank with fish droppings on the substrate. The bacteria that colonize an aquarium can only process a limited amount. I would say around 0.10 ppm ammonia per day. I had more effective success with other products. However, if someone is looking for a nitrification emergency, then a lot of stability can be dosed for it. Your mileage may vary. And if you plan on using huge tanks, good luck waiting a few weeks. Edit: After trying a few products I decided to upgrade it from 3 to 4 stars. It colonizes filter media better than true autotrophic nitrifiers and is more resistant to drugs. However, with some tanks, stability sometimes lasts forever. Seachem does not state why or if this is related to pH, kH and/or oxygen (dissolved oxygen). In my experience, stability is good for colonizing your filter bed. But you need to dose other foods to really lower your ammonia levels. And I believe that will always be the case unless you have a sump five times the size of your tank. If you think about it, lakes, rivers, and the sea have plenty of surface area for bacteria to effectively filter almost all of the ammonia. I think we'll have to wait for someone to come up with a synthetic strain that works better than natural nitrifiers as aquariums are very far from the natural environment for our fish.
