Save money and buy Tetra Safe Start Plus instead!

I've been using it for almost two months and am trying to complete a fishing cycle. I have never received any evidence of beneficial bacteria from this product. Ammonia levels continued to rise and nitrites and nitrates were zero every day for 8 weeks. I had to change 50% of the water daily to protect my fish. I stopped buying Tetra Safe Start Plus as soon as the stability went away. Two weeks later I went through a full cycle with zero ammonia, zero nitrite and 5ppm nitrate. Didn't have to…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far

  • Easy maintainability

This seems to have helped speed up my cycle.

. My aquarium went through a full cycle in 4 weeks with low plant mass and purigen in the filter. Without Purigen this could have happened even sooner as there would have been more organic matter in the water to feed the nitrifying bacteria. It's always hard to tell with these things, especially since "beneficial" bacteria are everywhere and naturally found in an aquarium. It's been a while since I've set up the aquarium but I remember the last time it was about 6 weeks or so before I got my…

Pros
  • . Great for me.
Cons
  • . Working speed.

This works when cycling without fish.

Suitable for cycling without fish. It's not entirely reliable and the instructions are more recommendations in my opinion. I started seeing signs of a nitrogen cycle within a few days of following the directions. Correct, at very low power. It takes time to grow and adapt to aquarium conditions and is very delicate at this stage. A splash of ammonia or chlorinated tap water can easily kill it. Be sure to use Prime! Not Revane Prime, Seachem Prime! It doesn't really start your tank in 7 days…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires outlet

I confess that it is very durable. However, these heterotrophic bacteria do more harm than good. You need a very good filtration system to avoid suffocating the fish from bacterial blooms. Also, it causes ammonia emissions for several days as it destroys all organic matter. Not entirely sure, unless you want a half-cooked tank with fish droppings on the substrate. The bacteria that colonize an aquarium can only process a limited amount. I would say around 0.10 ppm ammonia per day. I had more…
