. My aquarium went through a full cycle in 4 weeks with low plant mass and purigen in the filter. Without Purigen this could have happened even sooner as there would have been more organic matter in the water to feed the nitrifying bacteria. It's always hard to tell with these things, especially since "beneficial" bacteria are everywhere and naturally found in an aquarium. It's been a while since I've set up the aquarium but I remember the last time it was about 6 weeks or so before I got my nitrate levels. I didn't use any Purigen in this tank either. Something accelerated this cycle, so that must have been the cause.
