I'm not sure I can explain but I'll try. I have these hooks to hang planters in my bedroom. We have a standard drywall ceiling (house built in 2000) and when I did a drill test (as instructed) I found the dots didn't hit the stud which meant I had to use wall anchors - great. Cut holes big enough for the flattened anchor to go through the hole except the screws on the anchor are only a certain length and that wasn't enough to get the anchor far enough for the wings to actually spread be able. So I had to take the hook off and use the nose of the needle to push it in far enough for it to fly out and pray I didn't drop it and lose it there forever. Then, because the hole is so big, I had to use cardboard to press the threaded rod against the wall of the hole so I could thread the hook through. THEN! Because the hook only lets the screw in a little, it never tightened properly, and there was a gap between the hook and the ceiling that I had to backfill with cardboard. I made it look good but damn there must be a better way.
