Review on πŸŽ₯ Onkyo TX-SR313 5.1-Channel Home Theater A/V Receiver (No Longer in Production) by Antonio Lemm

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good but better options IMHO

I recently bought this unit and returned it in favor of the Yamaha RX-v373. The Onkyo is basically a good machine but there are a few things I didn't like - the documentation is woefully inadequate compared to Yamaha's and possibly other documents - you can get them online and you should read both before you buy. The unit produced nice, tight, high-quality sound, but I also missed a clean audio input (the Yamaha has 2). Ultimately though, Yamaha produces the best sound IMHO, and the extra power (which I think is conservatively priced) definitely makes itself felt when comparing the two models. I hooked up a Kill-a-Watt meter (available from Revain here) to measure power consumption and found the unit to be conservative in operation (Yamaha and Onkyo were virtually identical in this regard - around 40 watts). However, what really annoys me is that when I turned off the Onkyo, to my surprise, the meter still read 27 watts. I checked all the settings and turned off the device as much as possible :-) and it still shows 27 watts. Yamaha - off - reads 0.5 watts (half a watt) - as it should be. If I had to make a recommendation I would choose Yamaha as they are about the same price.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Security
