I've been using this device for steaks, cheese and yoghurt for 2 weeks. I also have a handheld thermometer, after calibrating both (you really only need to calibrate any food thermometer with ice-filled water) they had almost the same accuracy. Both thermometers showed the same degrees up to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, after which they differed by 5-10 degrees. I don't know which one is more accurate, but the 185f accuracy is still good. The magnet behind this thermometer is excellent as you can put it on the fridge when not in use. The probe is very good for meat but a little less so for cheese making as the cheese pots are deep. When you're not using the probe, you can conveniently fold it behind the thermometer body. There is also a bottle opener at the end. I recommend this product for accuracy and ease of use, wish the probe was longer :)
