I had 4GB of RAM in my Thinkpad and Lenovo E540 laptop, so 16GB should be a big improvement right? I understand that 16GB is the max for the E540, so I got 2 Patriot SODIMMs. Easy to install. Remove the battery and the 3 fixed screws on the back panel and remove the cover to access the SODIMM slots. The E540 has 2 SODIMM slots that actually overlap and are at a slight angle to the motherboard. I only had 1 4GB SODIMM installed. Push the rail/lever and the old SODIMM will pop out. Insert the new RAM into the socket, bottom slot first, at an angle until it is seated in the socket, then push in until the latches click into place. Repeat for the second RAM card from the top. After powering on I checked the system configuration and now I have 15.7 GB "usable". is 16GB of RAM. When I first turned on Windows Security Essentials, it panicked a bit when it asked me to start it manually, so it must have something to do with the new RAM. So if you're wondering if this RAM will work in the Lenovo E540, that's a big YES!
