I'm an engineer, got one of these when I started my new job (parts of it were missing and then reassembled like some sort of Frankenstein measurement). I spent a month wondering if I would destroy surface water systems or if I was just an idiot. I have understood. Also, you can pick up the pieces and the new engineers will think they're going crazy. They also have inches and decimal feet, ideal for collaborating with all sorts of agencies. If they are all intact they work great.
