It does not leak when the straw is closed but when opened and turned upside down it does leak a little but that is to be expected. Keeps my water cold or hot tea hot all day. At first I didn't think I would take a large bottle everywhere, but now I take it to work every day and pretty much everywhere. My wife has had the same brand/version for years and has handled her abuse just fine. The only downside I have for her is that the straw cap's rubber mouthpiece fell apart after about a year of use, probably due to her lip gloss. I installed a small piece of clear plastic tubing over the remaining hard plastic to make it work the same way. I can actually take the little plastic tube off and clean it from time to time if needed as it still uses lip gloss which builds up over time and needs to be brushed off. The piece of tubing I used had to be heated in boiling water to soften it and ensure a tight fit. Photos are attached.
