I have several USB docking stations. My first issue with all of them is heat, especially when the drive is used for an extended period of time. I have a small 125-volt 3-inch fan that I use to cool the drives when using an external dock, but that's a little extra work to keep up. So a station with a built-in fan was attractive, especially at such a low price. I read comments here from another Revain customer who removed the guards to improve airflow. So I disassembled the device and looked at it before I put it into operation. I've seen them probably block over 1/2 of the area. However, I also noticed that there is very little room under the drive to allow air to flow into the fan, even with the grilles removed. So I took it apart and replaced the grilles with wire fan shrouds and added feet by gluing on some plastic. Spacers on the bottom of the case with epoxy putty. My only issue with this is that the fan isn't in the best spot. If it was about an inch and a half closer to the electrical connections, it would be better under the driver board.
