We use them the day after a snowfall to protect our dog's paws from ice melt products that are applied to the sidewalks. They don't last forever, but that's okay. They're good for a few miles I'd say. Less with an active dog. If one breaks, you just drop it and pick up another one. They can be cleaned simply by rinsing. A bit tricky at first, especially when Rover doesn't want them. Update: we now use them all year round. Our older dog is losing hind leg function (due to dermatomyositis). They are very comfortable for outdoor use, although they do wear out after a while. They provide a layer of protection to keep our old mongrel from rubbing his back toes. They affect his walking style less than other, more durable alternatives. Not recommended for indoor use. Leaving it for several hours will collect your dog's sweat in there and can cause problems, one of which is really smelly dog paws. This lesson was learned the hard way.
