I finally investigated and found that both of the microphone holes were obstructed by stickers in the part of the case that is over the microphone holes of the phone. You need to poke through the stickers both at the top and bottom of the phone. The bottom hole, even after the sticker is poked through, is misaligned but you probably don't need to do anything further other than poke through the stickers (inside part of the case) which you must clear to make the microphones on the phone work properly. I went the extra step with a box cutter and cut out part of the plastic bridge. See the photos .Now the microphone is totally Exposed on the top and bottom and the phone case is still waterproof for the most part
