My 12 year old son wears size 12 jeans/pants but I recently bought him several size 12 pants (regular) so he needed a belt to hold them in place. . I ordered this medium sized Dockers Boys belt for him and it fits him well. It closes the belt with several holes (about 4), so the average size will easily fit a child who also wears (regular) size 12 pants. A child, who wears a size 10 or less I would suggest going for a small one as a kid who is 12 ton uses a medium length belt which is pretty much the shortest. The belt is smooth and even, so there were no issues getting buckled or unbuckled. The reversible features come in handy as the two colors go with almost anything he wears. That's a great belt!
