After purchasing this SideSwipe Paddle product (ignoring the negative reviews and pictures for the first time), I have to say my intuition was correct. The only way these people could have had problems was by misusing the product or ordering the wrong size for the bowl size of the KitchenAid stand mixer. For example, if you don't adjust the height of the bowl properly to provide a clear but adequate paddle for the bowl when the paddle is in motion, like any other paddle or hook accessory, it will pretty much self-destruct! Or mix up a product that is too thick and heavy for this spatula (this is not a bread hook). Generally you only want to use it for whipping cream, light batter and adding chocolate chips or nuts to that mixture without damaging it. This theme has a very clear list of what to do and what not to do. The SideSwipe paddle is well built, and on top of that it's America's Test Kitchen's #1 recommendation (they got it right too!). I have no ax in this battle other than that the misinformation provided by negative reviews may discourage you from purchasing the product. this could be exactly what you are looking for. I also have to say that there was some negative feedback on a manufacturing issue (you and I know this can happen, humans are humans too) but then the manufacturer sent the customer a replacement product.
