Good idea, doesn't really work

Doesn't really work as advertised to break the chain or reassemble. Chain T8F. First, I stuck a pin from the T8F chain in tight. I'm pretty sure a 35 pin wouldn't fit at all. After pushing out the stuck pin, I drilled a hole (to do this on a lathe). After this fix, it works pretty well for extruding pins. It's impossible to see how far you've come, so it's hard to stop when the pin is only in one side plate (so you can reassemble it), but it's possible. I plan to add a stopper to make this easier in the future. The second problem is that when you try to push the pin back in to connect the chain, nothing is holding the chain's side plates. Instead, you end up banging the two outer side plates into the inner plates, which means the chain piece doesn't flex very well. I think I can find/do something to fit in the chain link when the pin is pushed back in to avoid this problem. In the end, I think this will be one of the easiest chain brakes to use that I've tried. However, that's a lot of tweaking just to get the tool to do what it's supposed to do.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
