Review on Portable Electronics Cassette Player Recorder by Kevin Hawkins

Addendum: After a few years, the CD drive occasionally failed. I'm using a cheap portable CD player with a headphone jack connected to the NAXA aux jack. The player sits on a slightly warped tabletop, so it sometimes tilts a bit when I press the tape recorder buttons. There are two tweeters. on each speaker but I don't know if they work or are just decoration. Naxa's sound is strange when I turn the volume knob slowly. I have stereo sound, then just one speaker, then just *another* speaker. and finally stereo again. As soon as I switch back to stereo, the sound quality is very good. I use bass boost. Naxa should add a volume control to the remote control. Next to "Play" and "Stop", the volume controls are the most important. I recommend this ghetto blaster. longer. Sound quality is about the same as the more expensive Sony, which doesn't have an auxiliary jack like the Naxa. I also have Philips computer speakers that sound better than any other. (Philips SPA8210/37 with Woox bass drivers. Purchased from Revain.) This NAXA boombox has good sound from CD player, cassette deck, radio and aux jack. I really like that I can connect my iPod to the front for playback. MP3 through speakers instead of headphones. I also like having a digital display that shows exactly what radio station is playing. (Sometimes I want to turn down the brightness. I feel like I'm wasting power.) The remote doesn't have many features, but that keeps it comfortably small. It fits in your pocket. On the downside, there's no volume level indicator until you're playing something. So you can hit the play button and listen to loud music if you don't turn the knob down as a precaution. My only major issue is that the player is so light with the batteries removed and the speakers disconnected that pressing the buttons on the cover band moves the entire player. I'm afraid it will tip over and break!
