These leaves turn black as they rot. Snails and shrimp don't care about leaves or black matter at all. I thought they would get softer but they are just hard and brittle. I didn't want my water to go dark because I have high light plants, but I did want snails and shrimp to chew on it. Maybe I'm wrong and the black stuff is fine, but it looks unsightly to me and I think I'll just feed them seaweed waffles instead.
