there was a device that transferred films to a storage device e.g. a video recorder

i am looking for a standalone device in which i put an old 8mm film and the device transfers the film to the Storage device that allows me to show movies on my laptop and/or TV without a movie projector because mine is broken. A few years ago, there was such a device that transferred movies to a storage device such as a VCR without using a projector.
