Review on Standard Horizon HX890 Black Handheld VHF: Advanced Floating 6W Class H DSC Two Way Radio - Top-rated Marine Communication Device by Phil Casey

I rarely write product reviews but I think I should warn others about what to expect when they buy a Standard Horizon. About a month after I received the product, it suddenly had an issue where the screen would light up but the buttons would not respond and nothing would appear on the screen itself. After an initial relatively quick support email response, I received the names of two distributors who I was told could provide support. After several rounds of emails with both of them, one of them told me they couldn't help but go back to Standard Horizon; Another told me to check the manual - which didn't help as it's clearly a hardware issue - and became unresponsive. Given the lack of actual support, I emailed Standard Horizon's customer support address again. That was about a month ago and several subsequent emails went unanswered. To this point I have been able to use the product for less than the time it took me to simply ask or track down or be ignored by customer service. My problem is not solved and I doubt it will ever be solved. For a $200 product, that's just not enough. Disappointed, I bought a Uniden HDS75 that works great. I don't know how their product is supported but I can buy another unit if needed and both cost less than the HX890. Standard Horizon, if you're reading this my conclusion is: Great product but for such an expensive price the customer support is not up to par. I won't be buying from you again.
