Overall rating on a scale of 1 to 5: 3. Before purchasing Torin 5, I was a consistent user of Torin 4.5. The most comfortable running shoes I've ever had. Tons of support, tons of pillows. These little ones taught me to run with a midfoot/forefoot kick. What I liked even more about the 4.5s is that they haven't lost their usefulness after the end of the pillow/shoe lifecycle. I used my old 4.5 as a home work shoe or transition shoe when I needed to wear cleats as a referee but needed a comfortable, roomy shoe between games. 5 is light, offers a lot of support and is a good shoe overall. They're smaller than 4.5 (a nightmare for any runner who pinpoints their comfort level with a specific model), they're smaller than 4.5, and they're stronger/stiffer than the flexible 4.5. I don't know why there were so many significant changes to one shoe but it was extremely disappointing. I ran about 50 miles in my 5's and now I know I'm in them. I'll either have to find another ALTRA model to break in to now that they've wiped out that line, or start buying old, unused 4.5s from the alternative market. Consider me disappointed.
