I returned it. I put it online and my modern Mac never found the device. First there was a problem installing the software as the software is 32-bit and Macs prefer 64-bit software. When it didn't find the device, I checked the website and it was useless. There was no troubleshooting information in the instructions and online PDF. If you enjoy fumbling around to get the product to do what it's supposed to do right away, this could be a fun hobby for you. But if you just want it to work the way…

These things are disgusting!

I bought a dual 8TB hard drive and plugged it into the 1GB ethernet port. I've been copying files to it for 2 days. 2 DAYS! I'm trying to backup about 128GB and the transfer rate is only 30-80kbps - that's kilobits NOT megabits. And then it didn't stop at all when I had to pause and resume the broadcast to start it again. be god awfully slow. I would be better off getting an 8TB USB hard drive, binding a Raspberry Pi to it and plugging it into my network router. I repeat, DO NOT waste your…

This is old technology, find something else.

I needed a backup solution that integrated with Active Directory (AD) to backup and secure Windows Server 2012 R2 drives. This NAS requires SMBv1 to be enabled for AD integration to work. The problem is that Microsoft deprecated SMBv1, which means; Do not use SMBv1 as Microsoft intends to remove it from Windows in a future release. Because of this requirement, I decided to send it back and look for another device. As for the NAS configuration (other than Active Directory), it was fairly easy to

The supplied hard drives are a disappointment! NO NAS drives.

Buyers beware! I bought a 4TB setup with the drives included only to find out that the drives installed are WD Blue drives (WDC WD20EZRZ-22Z) which do not match the NAS! I've been waiting for WD Red Label wheels! The picture in the product description even shows Red Label rims. The WD Blue drive is a regular PC hard drive, not a NAS! So I am concerned that one or both hard drives will soon fail and then incur EXTRA COST to replace them. Frustrating HD aside, setup was easy, it comes with Nova…

Terrible smartphone access and support

Was looking for a network drive for cloud storage. I got an added bonus when I found that it supports DLNA. Now I can play my entire music library through Roku. And it works well with support for playlists you create with Windows Media Player. Setup was pretty easy. However, the Android Webaccess app requires a lot of work. This is clearly not user friendly. Also, I don't have the ability to manipulate views like in Windows Explorer. Also, I cannot delete my files from my smartphone/tablet. I'm

Very disappointed: Datastore

I really wanted this to work. There were many reviewers who complained about the setting. I'm not an IT guy, but I'm better than most amateurs. So I figured I could handle it. Other reviewers complained about the inaccuracy of the documentation; You were right. About five hours later I started calling support. 1- Renewed support - one hour. They tried, but they were completely ignorant. 2- Buffalo support. First I had to wait two days. They don't work after five or on weekends. When I finally…

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Little things

I'm an IT manager with 38 years experience and have installed hundreds of NAS devices from 30 different companies, from basic to high end, and EVERY cheap Iomega NAS from 15 years. Home was using Energy Star with automatic hard drive sleep detection to save power and extend hard drive life, and this Buffalo DID NOT! This is unacceptable even at the reduced price of $115! Their tech support commented "Well this is for home use", this is the environment where an Energy Star hard drive with…

Simple drive that restarts automatically after a power outage

We have three 2TB Linkstation 210's and are very happy with this product. They replaced 12 year old Buffalos which were rock solid but have had power issues lately (dried lids). They also had to be restarted after power outages. I'm happy to report that the new 210s are autoloading. UPS is not required. External power supply. I see a lot of negative feedback here, probably due to the lack of documentation and the "walk-me-through-all-process" setting. To be honest, I don't even deal with…
