Review on Logisys RM01 Channel Wireless Control by Dave Butler

Two stars because I managed to get it to work but had to redo every component. Both remotes had dead and corroded batteries right out of the box. (There was no indication of the LED, so I opened it up to examine it.) There was also corrosion on the spring terminals, but they 'scraped' fine. Working in FOB I noticed that the rubber buttons seem to have been made incorrectly, there are three small indentations that usually hold the rubber buttons in place to allow the battery to be replaced without losing the rubber buttons. They were made in reverse order. When you open the key fob, the buttons fall out. Don't worry, they still work. The soldering flux was all over the board, it's ok too, doesn't hurt anything, but it looks like "corrosion". Cleaned with gentle scraping. The second problem I found was in the relay box itself. It was perhaps the worst quality part I have ever seen. The board inside dangled, held in place by a screw in the corner; The wires were "stripped" and strands of wire removed to fit the holes, all wiring came out of the square hole (possibly intended for the switch in another version) and there was no strain relief at all. (This will be a problem if you move them frequently, the wires can break easily). The receiver board was only held by the soldering pins and placed crookedly and bent over the relay board and then soldered in this way. The antenna cable was then routed through the same hole as the power distributor. This can easily lead to transmission/reception problems. (I work with electronics professionally.) So I rebuilt the board, removed and soldered all the wires (the wires fit nicely in the hole before tinning the wire once the hole was cleaned of old solder), reinstalled the receiver boards and brought the wires out of the grooves into the base of the block as expected, disconnected the antenna wire from the power harness and passed it through its hole which was also in the base and after I cleaned them connected them for their intended purpose and laid 12 volts to the key fob from the power supply and everything worked. So 2 stars because it works. If you are good with tools, can work with electronics and soldering skills (RoHS) and order new batteries for FOB before fitting, I can recommend this switch. Mainly because for $15 you get a wireless switch and two FOBs. It doesn't matter if you can fix it first. If you decide to do a rebuild, be careful not to damage the freestanding coils on the receiver board as this can slightly alter the receiver's frequency response.
